With regards to the timing of the fish rescue, the team at Chasewater are waiting for the water level to drop a little lower, so it will be easier for us to catch as many fish as possible.
We plan to catch a sample of fish this week, so we can confirm the fish population is healthy. Once the test results are in, we will be able to confirm the locations where the fish will be released.
We continue to work closely with British Waterways and the Environment Agency to ensure that we carry out the operation properly, and we expect the main rescue to be completed by the end of March – before the start of the fish spawning season.
As soon as more details are known they will be posted to the blog.

hi lizzie
i heard on the grapevine that the catfish recovered from the lake are to be destroyed rather than rehomed. Please tell me this isn’t true it would be a travesty.
Many thanks, Nige
British Waterways have told us they are are taking all the fish, that said, I’ve asked for further details and I’ll come back to you. Cheers
3 friends and i were planning to fish chasewater for 3 days March into April but by the sounds of things it will have very little fish left in there by then, i know of many people that would like to know just when the fish rescue is taking place to view the captures could you please notify us with this detail and also would the findings be published.
Many thanks Dave.
We’ll definitely be posting updates about the fish rescue, and I’ll see what I can do to confirm the dates for you. Cheers

never heard of a nature conservation area selling off the contents of its nature reserve! do only birds, trains and fair grounds count as components worth saving! all effort should be made to conserve all elements of flora and fauna on this site!!
Thanks Derek – this is absolutely what we are trying to do, which is why we are working closely with conservation experts, the Environment Agency and British Waterways, to name but a few.
no one would have a gripe if you did the right thing but you have not the british waterways are going to make out of the sale of your fish this is mad and now there’s talk that the local people in the local area are going to end up paying through council tax for your repair work to your dam. if only you had looked in to this what would help if you had said to british waterways wot fish they have and sell (re-home) if they were to re-stock after the work is finished and the water is right with the same amount of fish they have taken out would of been better or even put the money raised off the fish to the repair work but no looks like the whole of the local area is going to pay for your lack off intrest in what people are making a fuss about. and very soon these fish are going to start spawning !!!!!!!!!!!
wots going to happen then ??????????
Although we continue to seek financial support from other sources these works have to be completed and at present it is the 40,000 council taxpayers of the district that will have to meet these costs. We have sought quotes from other reputable fish rescue organisations but the most cost effective proposal for the council was the offer from British Waterways. Cheers
