Lichfield District Council is developing a new master plan for Lichfield city centre to reflect local people’s views that will incorporate redevelopment of the Birmingham Road site.
The plan will be created with the views of residents from across the district, local businesses, partners and more, and will make sure that Lichfield city meets the needs of its growing and changing population in years to come.
We have appointed David Lock Associates to help shape the new master plan. The new plan, which will include proposals for the future of the Birmingham Road site and its interaction with the overall city centre, is essential if we are to develop Lichfield city positively for future generations.
It is envisaged that the Birmingham Road Site will be developed in phases:
- Temporary improvements to the Birmingham Road site during 2019 that lay the foundations for a longer-term scheme, and make the site safer, more useful and more attractive. These were approved in July 2019 and are set to kick off soon. Find out more.
- Longer-term improvements as part of the wider city centre master plan that provide a sustainable development that complements our changing and evolving city and will incorporate the views of stakeholders, partners, businesses and residents. The city centre master plan will be worked up during 2019. Find out more.
We held consultation events in spring 2019 on the longer-term plan for the city centre and the Birmingham Road site – thanks to everyone who came along and gave their views. We will host more consultation events, in partnership with David Lock Associates, as our plans develop. We’ll also post updates to this website and and .
